Case study

Creating a funding proposal to increase access to surgical services

The goal

To help a newly established organisation promoting global access to safe, affordable surgery develop a targeted funding proposal – on upscaling surgical care in a low-income country.

Our approach

Building a case for support

Initially, we carried out a literature review and interviews with in-country partners to understand the current state of access to surgical care. Using this research, we selected the most impactful data to highlight the unmet need and the urgency for action. By understanding the need, we could make a compelling case to meet it.

Research on a target funder

Because a target donor had been identified, we researched them, enabling us to tailor the proposal to their strategic priorities.

Development of a funding proposal and stand-alone narrative

Starting with an outline and key messages, we built a strong proposal for the target funder to invest focusing on how surgical care could be phased in and the impact it could bring. To complement the proposal, we crafted an executive summary, serving as a succinct overview of the project.

The impact

We provided the client with the essentials for a successful investment pitch – highlighting the urgent health need and tailoring the narrative on how to meet it to the target donor.

We loved this project because…

It aligns with our aspiration to enable equitable access to healthcare, improving the health and lives of many. We empathised with the passion and ambition of the project stakeholders and enjoyed translating their expertise into a convincing case for funders.
